What each app is for

If you are weighing Rubik Variant Images & Swatch vs OP Color Swatch Variant Images, start with the job. Both apps change how your theme shows the variants you already have in Shopify. Neither one adds new product options.

Rubik, from Craftshift, focuses on images. The listing says it shows only the images for the selected variant and adds image or color swatches to the variant picker. Its feature tags lean toward gallery layouts: carousel, slider, grid, masonry, collage, lightbox, image zoom, video and hover effects.

OP Color Swatch Variant Images, from OPTIS, focuses on the picker itself. The listing says it replaces your theme’s text variant picker with color and image swatches, variant images and stock badges. Its tags include low stock alerts, in-stock display, radio buttons, translation, and import and export.

They overlap on swatches, dropdowns, custom CSS and HTML, preview, hiding out-of-stock variants and showing stock availability. Both listings show the Built for Shopify badge. On October 26, 2026, Rubik showed 5 stars from 497 reviews and OPTIS showed 5 stars from 801 reviews.

Price and plans in practice

Both apps bill in USD every 30 days. Neither listing shows an intro offer.

On Rubik, a small store has four choices:

  • Free Plan: covers 1 product, on a live store.
  • Starter: $25 a month, or $200 a year (the pricing card says this saves 33%).
  • Advanced: $50 a month, or $400 a year.
  • Premium: $75 a month, or $600 a year.

Each paid plan has a 7-day free trial. The price does not change with your Shopify plan. If you want swatches on just one hero product, the free plan may be enough. Once you want more, the entry point is $25 a month.

On OPTIS, the free tier is not for live selling. The pricing card says it is free for development stores, and the listing limits it to trial, Partner and development, Pause and Build, and staff stores. A live store uses the Pay As You Grow plan, which follows your Shopify plan:

  • Basic: $11.90 a month
  • Grow: $29.90 a month
  • Advanced: $49.90 a month
  • Plus: $99.90 a month

The card says all features are included on every plan, and there is a 30-day free trial. The listing does not show a yearly option. For a store on Basic, twelve months comes to $142.80, compared with $200 a year on Rubik’s Starter plan. A store on Grow would pay $358.80 a year on OPTIS.

Theme support, setup and help

Craftshift publishes a supported themes list. Its FAQ says Rubik supports more than 350 Shopify themes, naming Dawn, Prestige, Impulse, Impact, Focal, Palo Alto, Symmetry, Stiletto and Broadcast among them. Of the 61 themes Techiepugs covers, the developer’s pages name 58, including Horizon, Dawn, Empire, Turbo, Kalles and older themes like Debut and Brooklyn.

OPTIS says its app works with all Shopify themes, naming Dawn, Sense and Refresh, plus most third-party themes. It does not publish a list beyond those three names, so if you run a paid theme, try it during the 30-day trial.

Neither developer’s pages state whether setup uses a theme app embed or which Online Store 2.0 features it relies on.

For help, the Rubik listing shows live chat and email support on its Free Plan, with links to an FAQ, a tutorial and app documentation. The OPTIS listing says it offers 24/7 live support and links to an FAQ and a tutorial. Rubik is listed in 16 languages and OPTIS in 23.
