Shopify Basic plan: what it costs and what it takes per sale.
Basic is the lowest-priced Shopify plan open to new stores. Here is its price in each country, the card rates it pays, one real order worked through, and the point where Grow starts to cost less.
Basic at a glance.
Basic gives you the whole online store at the lowest monthly price Shopify offers new stores: $39 a month on monthly billing in the US, or $29 a month billed yearly, which saves $120 a year (25.6%).
The trade-off is in the rates and the team size. Basic pays the highest card rate and the highest third-party transaction fee of the four plans, and it includes no staff accounts. That makes it the right plan while sales are modest, and a costly one once they grow.

India has no Shopify Payments, so every order there goes through another provider and pays Shopify's 2% third-party transaction fee on top of that provider's own fee.
France: Shopify's French pricing table lists no in-person card rate. Irish rates exclude VAT, which Shopify adds to its fees there.
One order, worked through.
Shopify Payments takes 2.9% + 30¢ on the $50.00 the customer pays, which comes to $1.75. No transaction fee is added, because the payment went through Shopify Payments. After $15.00 for the goods and $6.00 for postage, $27.25 is left: a 54.5% margin. Priced below $21.94 a unit, the same order would lose money.
