Shopify image sizes

Shopify logo size.

Shopify shows a logo at most 300 px wide in the header. Upload it about twice that, 600 px wide, so it stays sharp on high-density screens, and use a PNG with a transparent background.

Checked against Shopify's pages

The short answer.

Shopify's Help Center gives logos a maximum width of 300 px. The logo shows in the header on all pages and on the password page. Dawn lets you set the width from 50 to 300 px and requests the file at 1x, 1.5x, 2x that width, so 600 px wide covers the largest setting on sharp screens. That upload size is worked out from Dawn's code; Shopify does not state it.

Save it as a PNG: Shopify suggests PNG for logos, which keeps flat colors crisp and the background transparent.

    Dawn and Shopify's free themes.

In Dawn the logo width is a slider in Theme settings, from 50 to 300 px in 10 px steps, starting at 100 px. Whatever you pick, Dawn asks for the file at up to twice that width, so a 600 px wide upload is sharp at every setting. The Horizon themes state no logo pixel size in their settings.

    What theme vendors publish.

Each size as the vendor's own documentation gives it, checked October 23, 2026. Themes change between versions, so check yours against its documentation too.

    Getting it right.

    1. Trim the empty space

Crop the canvas tight to the logo. Padding inside the file makes the logo look small at the width you set, and the header adds its own spacing.

    2. Keep the background transparent

A PNG with a transparent background sits on any header color. A JPEG brings its own white box with it.

    3. Use a separate mark for small spaces

A wide wordmark shrinks to nothing on a phone header. Some themes take a separate mobile logo; otherwise a compact version reads better.

    4. SVG has a catch

Shopify supports SVG logos, but they cannot be resized or cropped unless a flat format such as PNG is requested. A PNG at 600 px wide avoids the question.

    Logo size questions.

What size should my Shopify logo be?

About 600 px wide. Shopify displays logos up to 300 px wide, and themes like Dawn ask for twice the display width on sharp screens. Height follows from your logo's shape.

Why does my Shopify logo look blurry?

Usually the file is narrower than twice the width it is shown at. Upload a PNG at least 600 px wide, or export the logo at twice the width you set in the theme.

Should my logo be a PNG or an SVG?

PNG is the safe choice, and the one Shopify suggests for logos. SVG works in theme images, but Shopify notes it cannot be resized or cropped unless a flat format such as PNG is requested.

Where does the logo show in Shopify?

In the header on every page and on the password page, as Shopify's theme settings help describes. Set it in the theme editor under Theme settings, then Logo.
